It starts with a conversation...

Let me walk you through it...

Commissioning a painting is a great way to create something truly personal. Here’s how we’ll work together to bring your vision to life:

  1. Choosing the Medium

I’ll guide you through the options. Commissions are offered in acrylic on stretched canvas or mixed media on cradled board. I’ll help you choose the most appropriate for the subject.

  1. Collaborating on Your Vision
  • Photos: You’ll send me some clear photos of the subject you want painting, (special place, narrow boat, beloved pet or special human) from different angles and in good lighting. This will help me get all the details just right.
  • Location preferences: Want to change the setting? Let me know! You can provide photos or just describe what you have in mind.
  • Personal touches: If there are unique features, decorations, or details you want highlighted, I’ll make sure to include those. You can also let me know if there’s anything you’d prefer left out.
  • Size: We’ll decide together on the perfect size for the painting, based on where you’re planning to display it—whether that’s in your home, office, boat or the garden shed!

  1. Setting a Timeline

We’ll agree on a timeline that works for you, including the painting process and delivery. If you need the artwork by a specific date (like for a birthday or anniversary), I’ll do my best to meet the deadline.

4. Agreeing on Pricing

I believe in keeping things simple and transparent when it comes to pricing. Please ask if you are unsure about anything.

  • My artist fee.
  • Any shipping costs (if needed).
  • Optional framing if you’d like me to take care of that too.

A deposit (usually 30% of the total) will be required upfront, and the rest is due when the painting is complete.

5. Contract and Payment Terms

Before I start, we’ll finalise everything in writing, so we’re both clear on the details. This will cover:

  • What the painting includes (size, style, and specifics).
  • Payment terms and deadlines.
  1. Progress Updates

I’m happy to send you updates as the painting develops so you can see how it’s coming along. If you have any feedback during the process, we can adjust things before moving forward.

7. Final Delivery

When the painting is done, and final payment has been made,  I’ll arrange for delivery or collection. Smaller paintings are sent by Royal Mail, larger are sent by courier.

If you’re ready to get started or have any questions, I’d love to have a conversation!
