After Hours 1. An original acrylic on canvas painting, by Waterways Artist Jan Vallance. A small long landscape canvas 6″ x 12″ and .75″ deep.
The Inspiration Behind the Painting.
An evening spent with friends on a boat near Marsworth reservoir provided the inspiration for this painting. I felt impelled to try and capture the light on the water contrasting with the deep blackness of the surroundings. The company and the fast changing light meant that this had to be a studio painting, but it enabled me to have the time to build up the shadows.
This is one of two paintings inspired by this particular evening and place. (After Hours 2, a 8″ x 8″ square painting can be found here).
The paint on this picture is built up in layers. It includes gold paint and my trademark swirls. Unfortunately the gold doesn’t show up very well in the photos. It is varnished for protection with a low sheen varnish.
