The Inspiration behind The Fisherman in Red
Towpath life fascinates me. As I travel on my boat I see people using the canal banks and towpath for all sorts of leisure activities. This fisherman looked like he was there for the duration, I tried to imagine why he had chosen to fish on that day, what was his story, and how could I show that in a painting. I like to think that each person that looks at this fisherman in his red shirt will make their own back story.
It is varnished for protection with a low sheen varnish.
The paint on this picture is built up in layers. It includes gold paint and my trademark swirls. Unfortunately the gold doesn’t show up very well in the photos. The paint is carried on down the sides of the canvas so there is no need for framing, though I think that a good deep frame enhances the picture.
