An Acrylic on canvas painting inspired by canal bridges near Congleton on the Macclesfield canal.
The painting measures 19½ x 19½” (50cm x 50cm) and is 1½” (3.5cm) deep
This is a studio painting worked from photos taken over a number of years whilst steering my boat through the bridges. I go through these bridge holes in Congleton several times every year, and am fascinated by the abstract quality of the angles that the bridges create. This painting has been in my head for a long time, but it was only recently I managed to get an image of the angles I wanted.
Different forms of transport coming together…the canal and tow-path with the railway and road above. Approaching the bridges from the other direction there is a nasty chicane, and the cause of the biggest bump my boat has ever had…I wasn’t steering.
